Anachronism
The term "Microsoft basher" has never really been
accurate, but now it doesn't even make sense anymore.

The term was coined about ten years ago in an attempt to
marginalize critics of Microsoft by portraying them as people
with an irrational hatred of Microsoft, as if they just rolled out of
bed one morning and decided to hate Microsoft. Somehow,
portraying Microsoft as the misunderstood victim never passed
the sniff test, but nevertheless, endless repetition by Microsoft's
legions of PR flacks and the captive industry press gave the
misnomer an aura of credibility.

But now everyone knows Microsoft for what it is: corrupt,
incompetent, manipulative and lazy. Having a negative opinion
of Microsoft just means someone isn't brain-dead or bought, so
the term has now come to have such broad application as to
make it unspecific. It's like saying "hey, you" in a crowded room.
It's like describing someone as "they guy with the two ears on
his head and feet at the ends of his legs." A term that applies to
virtually everyone is no longer useful for specifying one or a few
individuals.

It is now more useful to speak of Microsoft lovers, Gates-
huggers and Ballmer buffs.
