Re: M$ is bribing the patent office
"Again M$ is stealing peoples inventions, this time by bribing the patent office, to get valuable IP for nothing.
The beast should pay for this outstanding patent!"

Spinning conspiracy theories again? Come on, S.S. I can't believe you really think MS is the only place driving this.

I've seen this patent as a risk to all sorts of web technologies like Java applets, in-browser Flash apps., anything that runs inside of a browser. I suppose one way that browser makers, including MS, could fix this is to 1) not recognize the tags that are covered by the patent (this would require the recoding of web pages), and 2) not allow anything to run inside the browser, but rather run them as self-contained applications that run in separate windows. It would be less convenient for people, and could cause confusion for average users, but it would continue to allow things to execute in conjunction with web page content. I do think however this would lead to a lot more complaints about "pop-ups" in the future.
