You buy Linux
You own it. The Java desktop is no different than paying for Microsoft licenses, except it's less expensive, and allows for the use of open standards on older hardware (saving more $$$).

Here is a link, read up. This particular system is targeting business / office workers not home users. Bottom line is again you have a choice of what you want to use and how you want to use it.

One thing you may want to look at, hardware requirements:

Desktop System Requirements
Minimum Supported Configuration

* System: Pentium II-compatible, 266-MHz PC
* Disk Space: 4 GB
* Memory: 128 MB
* Display: 800x600 screen resolution

Recommended Configuration

* System: Pentium III-compatible, 600 MHz (or faster) PC
* Disk Space: 4 GB or more
* Memory: 256 MB or more
* Display: 1024x768 or higher screen resolution

I run a couple older PII-266 / 128MB PC-66 and PII-333 256 PC-100 systems with SuSE Pro. 9.1 and they keep up with the PIII-800 384 PC-133 Win2K I have no problems. Something to think about.

But I own my Linux systems 100% because I am not restricted by an EULA in how many instances I can install and run without paying for another license. PLUS I can change the internals if I want too. You, no matter what you say or how you spin it, never own your Microsoft software of ANY kind. You are always bound by the EULA and restricted from even seeing the source of the system to make deep changes.
