Actually, this is very relevant
Microsoft has had a pretty silent foothold on copyright protection that many consumers weren't aware of. Enter the iPod. All of a sudden a Microsoft solution to piracy is going to render many consumers pissed off because they can't use the music on their new $300 portable music player.

So, Apple has invented something that prevents Microsoft taking over another market and locking the comsumers further into their world.
