If google can find a challenge that is interesting enough and only a couple people in the world can figure it out, then they're set. If the challenge builds a reputation by lasting unsolved for a few months, it will attract the minds that are worth hiring. The question is ... are the minds that are already at google brilliant enough to come up with such a problem. If they aren't, they probably don't want to hire someone who is smarter than them anyway. They'd be more infatuated with employees who are like-minded, and in their eyes that would make their employees brilliant.
