SCO's fantasy is this -- the court rules that IBM and thus others who licensed code from AT&T can not contribute any code to Linux because it is a deriviative work and SCO is the successor to the AT&T contract.

So what would that mean in terms of reducing contributions to Linux? I think the exact distribution is irrelevant since when IBM contributes code to one - it in effect contributes to all and if IBM and others can't contribute to any... then there would be no kernel or other enhancements by anyone who "touched" SysV code.

Practically speaking, that is a pipe dream I think and that day will never come for a number of reasons (AT&T stating in a newsletter that the works created by the licensee are the property of the creator if they do not contain SysV code for one). SCO is just trying to keep the case alive for as long as possible so they can dump thier shares at a higher price and if by chance they miraculously make it to a jury who they can confuse... hell we all are tempted to root for the underdog sometimes and that gamble is all they have left since IBM called their bluff and didn't buy them out.
