price fixing
"Price fixing, we are not talking about that the article is about stealing."

Price fixing was brought up as a they're stealing from us so we can steal from them, argument. I dont agree with that argument personally, but you just chose to ignore it.

"A manufacturer can charge the said price for a widget. Therefore, if you don't like the said item you can buy a cheaper one.

Tisk, tisk, teaching basic economics here..."

You must have missed something in basic economics. That only works in a competitive market place. Price fixing is an anti-competitive tatic where multipule manufactures illegally(in the US at least) agree to all charge the same price. Eliminating competitive preassure to lower the price. There is no cheaper one to switch to.

I'm not aware of any price fixing investigations against the MPAA, but about a decade back there was a congressional investigation into the music industry. However it quickly stalled and came to nothing after a sudden and "totally coincidental" increase of campaign donations from the RIAA.
