Rather expensive publicity, but...
Working as head of Research & Techcology for a ;aw firm this suit makes me cringe. IF the court finds the claim baseless in theory they could order Googles to pay the Google legal bill and that quickly becomes tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars. The firm I work for would never take a case on a claim this light weight.

They waited many years too long and are not in a business that similar. Issues of this type have been decided for years and Googles has about zero chance. When Toyota first announced the Lexus, the on-line legal service Lexis\Nexis tried litigation. Mead Paper, who owned Lexis\Nexis at that time, lost. I lived in Dayton, Ohio then and remember that case well.

I still think the boys at SCO are doing infomercials on selling the idea of baseless lawsuits, and making wild claims on old unenforcible patents and tradmarks. Right off the bat Googles waited too long for enforcement, just as SCO clearly has problems of this type on their claim. It is not like Googles did not know Google existed. This is just a bad attempt to prop up a marginal company.
