Trademark technicalities
Actually, it was fine as long as Google didn't compete in the same markets that Googles did. It's kinda like if you owned McDonald's Hardware, and trademarked the name for use in the hardware industry. If you then decided to change your business to McDonald's Hardware and Burger Palace. You might just be infringing someone else's trademark.
