I didn't really mean technologically... though (I know you're gonna laugh) I expect Longhorn to be a great OS. What I meant from being behind 2 or 3 steps is that MS will likely have cleaned up it's code by the time linux gains a competitive market share. Thus losing it's true advantage over the windows operating system.

I am taking a wait and see stance with the new OS from Microsoft, based on the past 20+ years performance... I'll leave it at that for now.

I don't think it'll ever "win"... but it will do well (relatively) in a few years.

In the US you are most likely correct. In Europe and Asia, this is a tough call. But with a lot of governments overseas making the move... it's a matter of them succeeding, which I believe they will. Especially the Germans, like it or not they are some of the best engineers in the world. Then top off the fact they are using SuSE (now Novell) which was a German company until recently. You know by experience that SuSE is a solid OS with the best chance of making the corporate desktop work smooth. So the big changes will be in Europe and Asia, not in the US. And again we will find ourselves as a nation behind another curve and headed to the bottom of the heap.

I agree 100% here... but that's never gonna happen. Not in America while we're alive at least.

LOL, yes you are most likely very right here. To bad too, a lot of the problems we are seeing now in the PC world are due to a combination of things. The ignorance of the common average everyday user and a poorly designed and implemented piece of software.
