I think MS should consider putting Palladium back into Longhorn.[/i/]

Outside of MS' promotional materials, there was never any connection between ENSCUB and protection against malware. Put another way, adding it wouldn't make any difference to the cost of viruses, worms, etc.

However I think the project?s features should be scaled back and focused primarily on dealing with malicious code.

It always was about "dealing with malicious code." Of course, MS' definition of "malicious code" is that produced by competitors. Consider the "issues" IBM had with getting Microsoft's permission to include Lotus on IBM machines. Now consider how many ways the process can "go wrong" in getting a Microsoft certificate for running Firefox on Longhorn.

MS could then work with competitors over interoperability with their own secure computing schemes.

That's easy: everyone signs non-assert agreements to let MS have the use of their IP and pays for the current certificates. In return, Microsoft lets them run their code on Microsoft's computers. For a while. Unless there's a good reason not to.
