Actual Memo
--"The current virus that is slowing us down is fixed by most computers just by having the most recent Operating System updates and critical fixes and the Virus Scanner having the most current dat files. This keeps them from getting infected. Some of the computers in the field for various reasons are not getting pushed the updates; no fault of yours. One solution to this problem is that I am asking that you or even someone you feel is confident doing so, manual update their computers using the automatic Windows Update and on the McAfee Virus Scan, right clicking the red, white, and blue shield and clicking on Virus Scan Console. Then click Auto Update. This should update the Operating System and the Virus Scanner. Maybe some proactive response will be more effective than the reactive response that has been keeping us so busy."--

The funny thing is that our protocol doesn't allow for the field users to have admin rights on the machines they use because they share with other users on different shifts. So the subtext is going to be either give "someone I trust" admin access or do it myself. Knowing the people I work with, I may be putting in some late nights.

The bad thing is that the writer of this memo is focusing on the old virus stand-by and ignoring the very real fact that the new attacks are aiming straight for websites and bypassing the traditional "open me" methods.
