Actually
out of all the offerings, including the pitiful attempt by the American company Red Hat, it is the best.

Mandrake, made by the French, is a POS. It's good for newbies, especially since it does a wonderful job of emulating Windows in every aspect except the BSOD, no it panics (same dif...) I quit using Mandrake simply because of stability issues.

SuSE is well designed, well build and solidly supported. It was designed to be a desktop OS / system. There are 2 main branches for SuSE. Desktop and Server. Same basic kernels but tweaked, tuned and modified for their tasks to be performed.

I use SuSE 9.1 Pro for my desktop and 9.0 for my file server. Granny is the only Mandrake user and I have pretty much kept her on a 7.1 version since in my experience it's the most reliable and stable.

The other distros are nice and have great features but they are not ready for large scale deployment on desktop systems. I know I will get a flame or two from some of the Linux folks, but 5 years of use with Linux and I think I can speak from experience.

Bottom line, as I stated in another topic, I would love to see Linux eat 20-30% of Microsofts desktop market, but things need to happen first.
