Venture capitalism

You replied:
Depends what your product is and what is required for it to be made and delivered. Some people do it one stap at a time. Some people in thse forums seem to think you have to have Microsofts level of income (in 5 minutes after starting) otherwise you have failed.

People starting up companies do receive capital from venture firms or have to license out their ideas.
Manufacturing and distribution are costly.

But, as I noted in another post, entrepreneurial individuals can manage well for themselves, just not as a corporation.

In response to my:
"I'm wondering when poor countries will realize that when they encourage open source they're discouraging paid exports, which is where the real money is in an industry."

More like they are discouraging over-expensive imports and they are creating more employment in their own country.

Okay, so long as the software locals write isn't given away for free and they reach the widest possible market with their products by writing them for the software in widest use.
Employment is created by profits, after all.

And please remember my point that a large company like Microsoft can open facilities in a given country, becoming a substantial local employer.
