Good arguments and No arguments
First you wrote that you expected Microsoft didn't turn off Messenger service. Considering they already have, you were likely to be proven wrong.

Then you wrote:
You can bet there's some adware for their music service, as well as DRM infested items, too!

Why would you want to make that argument, too?
This SP is a response to all the criticisms leveled at security problems. It's self-protection on a real business issue. So a speculation about their music service is probably wrong and definitely irrelevant.

What you wrote comes across as have-no-argument-but-post-anyway.

Microsoft has huge resources and the company has used them to attract a lot of talent. I expect that this release is the introduction of security-as-feature.
One good discussion point is how far Microsoft should go in the day-to-day business of maintaining security. Most simply, AV updates. The company seems more adept at creating lasting structures. Maybe they should stick to what they know, and leave the day-to-day stuff to specialists.
Another discussion point is how good perimeter security, things like firewalls and av's, might be compared with engineering the software to make it harder to damage the system once the bad guys are past the perimeter.
And still another discussion point is what happens to small companies as Microsoft rolls along. For instance, I already have a good popup stopper and Flash/gif killer called Free Surfer. I use the free version, but there's a paid version which may be supplying a substantial portion of some peoples' income. Is this obsolescence just part of life, or should Microsoft create commercial spaces, stores on ground level of their high-rise, where non-Microsoft ingenuity can create better apps? The good part for Microsoft is they don't have to expend resources in these areas. The bad news is, they're reducing the standalone value, defined as features, of their operating system.

See what I mean? Make arguments where there's something to discuss. I'm assuming you have something to say worth hearing on a real topic.
