Gmail isn't *that* exclusive
I got a Gmail account yesterday. You, too, can have one. The invitations are sold on Ebay for ~ $1/each. Also, keep in mind that the invitations should only be necessary while Gmail is in beta.

I have to say that I really do like Gmail. The interface is clean, the "conversation" grouping is easy to use (although it looks odd when you first see it) and the use of labels rather than folders makes organization and filtering much more flexible. And then, of course, there's the 1 GB of space. Who could ask for more?? There is an issue of privacy, but that's the case with all Web-based e-mail.
