Microsoft will do anything they can to kill this.
They do not want a good, secure, cross platform way to install plugins. They want to make it much harder, or imposible, to get plugins for platforms other than Windows. They will do it only if they are dragged kicking and screaming. It will take some major defections to Mozilla to get Microsoft to move on this.

THEY ARE TRYING TO KILL THE BROWSER, NOT MAKE IT BETTER.
