Nice to see that the RIAA is fixated on KaZaa because it is on the verge of going legit. As the others have said, it is really a case of distribution control. But there are many other methods to obtain one's choice of media out there and no one will be able to kill them all.

Cybershoplifter (or his kid) can make the case that they paid for their downloads when they use the Russian site. I think the RIAA would be hard put to force a case against them because they DID pay something. Last time I checked, there still isn't a law that says one must download from only US-based or licensed stores. Since I own (on CD, vinyl, cassette and eight-track) the material I have ripped or downloaded, a hypothetical case against me would be just as hard.

KaZaa never impressed me, especially since it tried to drop Gator, Web2Shop and a few other goodies on my PC when I looked at it. No, not for illegal purposes-I wanted to see what it put on a registry so I could make note for cleaning purposes (I have a third-shift employee that was taking advantage of the faster LAN line in his facilty office for downloading and he installed all sorts of garbage). Pure junk!
