Integrate to get velocity, and again to get acceleration!
if you reduce the growth rate of both to some market wide metric, such as server units, Microsoft is outpacing linux in terms of market share. Linux is getting much more of the declining unix business than Microsoft, but Microsoft is getting some of that plus every day a little more of the Novell leftovers plus a lot of the new business in the market.

You need to recheck your math. Linux is in a growth maket in absolute and relative terms. Don't look at the top line numbers they indicate position; look at the second order - integrate to get velocity then a second time to get acceleration.

You will see that Linux is in a growth phase and Mr. Softee is in a decline. MS's growth of years past is not what it is today. If anything, Linux aside, its simply harder to get the same acceleration in a mature market.

Mr. Softee is pleantu worried, and has admited that its growth has plateaued. Linux is far from that stage. Even Unix is still growing because the overall market for high end gear is still growing. MS simply doesn't play in that market but Linux and Unix both do so you need to go back and rethink your data. Or, reread MS's PR, its not even close to your message!

The figures don't lie and Mr. Softee is still growing.

Quote some figures to back up your statements. Be objective, the figures don't lie but your bias may have caused you to do so, with the best of intentions I'm sure!
