To Jeff: Where you go wrong
The fact that I only post in these kind of discussions has no bearing on my opinion of anything other than Microsoft (and not even fully about Microsoft). I simply have nothing to say in response to an article about, for example, the rise of Linux in Europe or IBM's call for Sun to open-source Java. What could I say about those? Java IS the enterprise standard. Linux IS rising. Do I care? Sure. Those facts affect my future in the IT industry. But I have no complaints or criticism of either, so I don't post. Why should I post a meaningless, cheerleading comment about a product that most here probably know more about than I do? I read, and I absorb, and I sometimes laugh at the juvenile byplay in the talkbacks. But I don't really care one way or the other.

What I do care about are people who erroneously categorize me and others based on a single issue, as you are wont to do. Because I disagree (for example) that Microsoft should have been charged under anti-trust laws, you assume that I don't think Microsoft did (or could do) anything wrong. Because I think (for example) .NET might be able to teach a few things to Java (the platform), you assume that I use no products by Microsoft's. Where did I ever say that? Where's the proof (as you are so fond of asking for)? Show me the evidence you have that I'm paid by Microsoft, that I use only Microsoft products, that I've senselessly denigrated Linux/Java/OSS. Criticism of Sun doesn't translate into criticism of Java, and favoring Microsoft products doesn't translate into dislike for OSS products. At least, they don't to rational people.
