consider the fact that industry doesn't run on "desktops"
the "desktop" is the new fangled term for "dumb terminal". Today's "desktop" is the architectural equivalent of yeaterday's ASCII vs. EBCIDIC terminal. Companies bought and built their applications and compute "factory" by looking at the requirements of the Enterprise and then mapped the solution back into the best distribution network and display terminal technology of the day. Even today, most of the old applications are still what's running companies although its accessed via Java J2EE "wrappers" or via 3270 terminal emulators.

Very little in the way of real computing is done on the "desktop", just ask Microsoft, they said as much earlier recentlyu when they disclosed their justification from walking away from their contemplated purchase of SAP (because they just don't play in that market, and they don't want to be forced to open up their solutions and support non-MS technology which is the only reason SAP would even have value).
