Which IBM are you talking about?
I've never worked for the company (actually, since my business wasn't mainframe-oriented, didn't do much with them in the past), but I've had IBM neighbors, and the company pays about top scale. My wife grew up in an IBM town, and the IBMers were the town's affluent, leaving aside the relatively few land- or factory-owners.

IMBers may be moved, but they're also payed.
