What's the next OS from Intel?
``(Not) waiting for Wintel But the reasons for Intel's efforts are unique, coming as the product development cycle has lengthened for longtime PC ally Microsoft (one half of the so-called Wintel alliance), potentially curbing Intel's ability to roll out new features unless it also writes some software to enable those functions.''

``Lengthened'' cycles? More like ENDLESS vicious cycles of chaotic development without clear plan or organization. win97 was easy to make as it was so crappy as an os anyway. The x86 clocks were going up and there s/w appeared automatically faster.

Intel was refraining from producing its own s/w since the old good days of MS s/w dominance on the PCs. Now that Intel started producing more serious h/w and MS cannot even FIX their OLD pile of `s/w' Intel cannot stay behind until its `pal' (accomplish) can catch up. They need OS and appl. s/w for their 64-bit offerings but MS is stuck in its own mess, which like quicksand is slowly swalloing it under....

The funny thing is that HP and Sun and reluctandly IBM are using Intel/AMD h/w with their OSs.

Ironically enough, it is Linux IA-64 or x86-64 that is ALREADY there ready to run wink Imagine now Intel who was planning to use Itanium to bust the server market open, resorts to Linux to provide a viable platform!

Ohh the panic at Redmond... It's OK. They are very rich and they don't really care.
