So you're seeing the advantages of open source...
Open source means not having to write the same code twice. They take what's available from the community and write what they don't have themselves. Then they give what they wrote back to the community. Quid pro quo. That way not only IBM can sell or use this software, but anybody else can too.

And why do people choose to buy from IBM rather than go out on their own or buy from someone else? Because IBM contributed. Which means they know the code. Which means they are someone they can go to with a problem. Isn't open source nice? It caters everybody.
