Freedom appeals to more than just the power users...
True, I am a power user, and I enjoy recompiling the kernel on occasion when a need arises, but, everyone can enjoy the freedom that Linux provides. In Linux, regular users will be free from the nazi like DRM code MS is putting into Longhorn. I think even regular users will be upset when MS tramples on "fair use" rights to digital content. Bundling is another MS form of control that hurts the entire industry. Next on Microsofts chopping block is McAfee, Norton, and other anti-virus software makers. Like so many times in the past, MS will bundle an inferior solution, and put the quality software makers out of business. How about letting the people choose what software goes into the OS. If Windows was GPL'ed, Norton would be able to release their own version of Windows that bundled their products. People would love the variety! MS is like Henry Ford, "You can have it in any color you want, as long as its black". With the GPL and Linux, you can have the entire rainbow, and more colors than can be imagined. Total freedom.
