Well, when you need the best, you buy SUN hardware with Solaris.
But, the great thing about open standards is that if you do not have such demanding needs, you can run Linux on Opetron and get a lot more bang for the buck. And, with clusters and automatic failover, you might be able to skip Solaris and Sparc all together. So, unlike Microsoft Sun competes straight up with open standards so that you can substitute other technology. With Microsoft, you use their technology, you are locked in. This forces Sun to compete on the merits, and will be good for them in the long run.

Oh, Sun is now selling Opetron with Linux.
