Unless you are driving vehicles from the 80's, you haven't escaped any "modern computer junk". Show me a production car that isn't an antique that doesn't have a computer. In five to ten years expect a majority of production models to be connect to the net. For a few hundred, my handheld Java based Nextel Blackberry can give me directions, look up a phone number, display my email, and provide a game or two for entertainment. In comparison to my desktop, it is bug free. For less than the price of a good stereo, you can install the tools to assure that you never get lost again, never walk a mile because you ran out of gas, and give you the ability to download/upload your favorite mp3's.

The principle problem with this market is that the auto industry is notoriously cheap when negotiating prices for new technology. The consumer has been conditioned to pay a premium for wireless communcations. However, in the automobile market, the technology vendor is not selling directly to the consumer. It is likely to be a big market, but not a very profitable market.
