- Of Course Apple Stole It...
-
Stealing is nothing new for Apple or Microsoft. When it comes to Microsoft, it's a known fact that they stole MSDOS from TexasDOS and Windows from the Apple OS. However, Apple is always moaning about others stealing their innovations, when it was they that started the whole trend. How soon we forget how Apple stole the Macintosh GUI from Xerox. Now, they?re stealing a popular innovation from one of their own developers.
Stealing pre-developed concepts has given both Apple and Microsoft their staying power. Let's face it, not including UNIX, the only truly original GUIs were the Xerox Alto/Star and Jay Minor's Amiga. In my mind the originators spent their money and resources developing a truly unique (and superior) platform, only to be short on the funds to properly market their innovation. So it was learned early on (by Apple and Microsoft) "Steal the concept and put the development money that you save into marketing." It's simple? innovation (when it comes to computer design and OS - other than minor increases in speed) just isn't cost effective. - Posted by: marmocida Posted on: 07/01/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
