tic, you weren't really surprised to hear that Windows follows Apple were you? Hasn't this been pretty well known, at least in the Apple community since Windows 1.0?
If Linux is imitating Windows at imitating Apple then how likely do you think it is that Linux is going to cannibalize the Apple user base? I agree with you that Apple buyers know what they want and see it as worth the price that they are paying to get it. If that were not the case that good company would have fulfilled the incessant naysayers prophecies of doom and died long ago. But it's still around and still producing hardware and software that users don't mind paying for and that isn't a security nightmare.
I use Linux, but I do have an old WGS 6550 that runs OS 9.1. The OS is very well thought out and consistent in it's user interface. There is a bit of lag time in switching programs due to the inherent overhead of switching so much contextual data on a 200 MHz CPU with a 5MHz SCSI bus, but for hardware 7 years old it was as fast or faster than any Pentiums of the day running Windows 95 in terms of switching from one program to another.
