To easy...
First, I don't know of any grandmother or grandfather (barring possible tech folks from back in the day) that loads any OS! So that part of the equation is bunk.

Second, my Grandmother uses Linux just fine to shop e-bay, check e-mail set-up knitting get togethers and many other things. Whats wrong with your grandma? I tried Microsoft with my grandmother over 4 years ago, to confusing for her, then there was the whole virus and security issue. So I put here on a Mandrake Linux box. She is now on a SuSE 9.1 Pro box doing what she normally does. E-Bay, e-mail, looking up materials for knitting, setting up her knitting parties and so on.

My whole family is on Linux. I have a Win2K box only because I need the stupid thing for work (proprietary non-cross platform apps). Otherwise, 100% Linux from the kids to the grandparents.

I am not the only one either, many of my friends have their families on Linux as well. The key here is apps. People really don't care so long as the following criteria is met:

1 - It's set up
2 - No real thought is needed to use
3 - It's secure
4 - The BSA will not break down their door
5 - They can check e-mail
6 - View images of family

Linux does all this and more. Give a person a system pre-installed and a little but of education and it no longer matters what OS it is.
