Are you sure Linux has "stout supporters" because of its capabilities? No philosophical reasons, no enjoyment of controlling the operating environment, no distaste for Microsoft involved? Just the functionality of the operating system(?).

As a matter of fact, yes. $EMPLOYER/IT is about as far from having any of those "issues" as they can get. The reason that I'm posting this from a $COMPANY workstation running RHEL 3.0 WS is very simple: I can do my job so much better from it than from the same exact Dell running Microsoft that the management insists on setting the machinery up with Linux. This, over the (increasingly weak) objections of the "we have only one desktop platform and it's Microsoft" faction within IT.

The most vocal Linux supporters around here all have responsibility for schedule and budget.
