Actually
the G5's are the equivalent of Dell's top end Precision workstations. And you are right very few people need that kind of power. On the other hand very few people get end up paying $800 for a Dell. Their average online PC order is about $1200.

The eMacs and iMacs $799 - 2000 are more than enough for most people, but the average PC user would rather buy windows and end up spending 70% of their time recovering from the multitude of problems inherent with the product.

Apple will never dominate the average desktop, but IMO by the time Longhorn truly arrives (the whole thing, not the stripped down first version that is now being promised) the business desktop arena will have multiple players. And the home market will follow.

Desktop operating systems are becoming a commodity. In a few years no one will care what their computers run, any more than they care what is on their mobile phones.
