You may be right here, but when has MS ever given the user a
choice? Why just make something the default, when you can
weld it in so it can't be removed? That seems to be their
standard MO.

Remember that Firefox has not been declared a monopoly
product, nor been declared a product of an abusive monopoly.
They get to play by different rules. Furthermore, Firefox is not
owned by Google, so promoting Google gives them no financial
gain.
