Ethical Programming
Maybe an update to my reply would be helpful. On the Internet is where I see the ethics being tested. As a matter of Law it is a requirement to protect the information stored on servers from being used in unethical ways. Here are some examples:

1. You buy a product on-line and hackers steal your identity and maybe your credit card information.

2. You download a game online and hidden in the License Agreement is your permission to send your E-mail Address to some marketing firm so you are inundated with Spam.

3. Some location on the Internet sells your E-mail address. What fun.

4. You buy prescriptions on-line and the on-line pharmacy sells a list of the drugs you purchased to prospective employers. Well if you purchased anti-Aids medication or anti-Venereal Drugs this might not be info you want shared. It could be the fact that you have some condition like hypertension or some other advanced disease like Alcoholism or have a genetic condition or are taking Heart Medications.

I think as far as ethical programming is concerned you should also look at the government. Sometimes agencies like the Licensing which in my state falls under secretary of state's office may be allowing people to have access to their databases. They have been known in the past to allow marketing firms access to their information looking for patterns so they can develop marketing strategies.

As far as I am concerned all these marketing gizmos on the Internet need to be illegal. The Marketers have invaded our mail, then they invaded our phone, and now they have invaded our E-mail. It is time for an E-mail Marketing Do not send list.
