RE: Debating the morality behind software development
As with most debates of this nature, it's not the item being discussed but the use it's put to. I worked for a defense contractor throughout the 1980s and into the early 1990s. I like to think that the software I developed contributed in some small way to the end of the cold war. This includes software for targeting ICBMs. So was this software moral or immoral? Or is it moral only so long as its end use is never realized (something I had no control over)?
