Uh, Anton
the majority of the scientist's that got the United States over the hump and into a viable atomic device were German scientist's that had defected from Nazi Germany. They were very close to making the first nuke.

Several of the scientists were Jewish but managed to hide that fact well enough to stay alive. Seeing what was happening in Europe and the pure ruthless genocide being enacted by the Nazi party many of them bailed to the French underground to be deported to the United States where they corrected our scientists of which were way behind the Germans.

After WWII many more German scientists were snatched up to move the United States jet and rocket propulsion divisions into overdrive. Some of these same scientists and much of the research material fell into Soviet hands. HAD the United States taken then entire nation of Germany and kept the Russians out, chances are they would have been further behind than they were.

It's amazing what a history book can do. devil
