It's so simple
All that needs to be done it make the middleware removable. If a
user doesn't want I.E., allow them to remove it. Same with media
player, etc. Is it really that hard? Why should someone have to
patch an application they don't use? Why should that very same
user, have to agree to a new EULA (that strips their rights away),
for a "Critical Security Update"? Why not just use open standards
and be done with it? Oh wait, this is Microsoft we're talking
about. You know...
"One world"
"One OS"
"One software company"
