I was really rallying for this guy until I saw this line: "Why should people have to use Vista rather than Apple?"
He pushes open platforms and reduced cost, then goes on to mention the most closed and most expensive computer company as an option?
Yeah, I agree that there should be more options. But going to Apple, a company with a long history of Nazi-esque anti-consumerism, is a giant step backwards.
For some reason, these people who get the idea that everyone should be using some other computing solution, just expect people to suddenly make the switch. That's never going to happen for the same reason we're still using QWERTY keyboards and the big metric system switch failed. The band-aid approach doesn't work.
The only way people will switch is slowly and in steps.
Example: Get people to start using Firefox or Opera. Instead of teaching "How to do process X in MS Office" start tagging on "Oh and here's how you do this process in OpenOffice by the way" then eventually it will be "How to do process X in any Office program." Once these minor things have settled in and people get used to the idea of choice, then spread to the OS itself. - Posted by: Larsix Posted on: 10/10/07 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
