It's not that easy
Don't assume everybody uses MS Windows on a 32-bit x86 computer. Some of us use a Mac or Linux or 64-bit computers. And Yahoo does not do a good job at supporting those platforms (Mac & Linux very little and amd64 & Itanium not at all), so it's only natural for people who use alternate platforms to flock to the IM clients which do support them.

Even people who still use Windows 95 (and there are a lot) are out of luck, because the most recent versions of Yahoo Messanger do not support that OS.
