Were you up in the Catskills playing nine-pins with little men during the 90s? The primary reason the "hoo-ha" over the web browser didn't play out is because MS crushed it through anti-competitive practices, which is what the 1998 judgment labeling MS as a monopolist was all about. MS killed Netscape and co-opted the browser with their proprietary enhancements because they did in fact see it as a danger to the monopoly they'd fought so hard to build.

We never had a chance to see what web-based competition could do. Even now, in the U.S. at least, the wonderfulness of this or that application has little to do with whether it can be a Windows-killer or not because, despite the fact that Microsoft's monopoly power has been subjected to some constraints, it is still there, still powerful, and no single application, or type of application, or corporation, can compete with it all by itself. Do a little reading up on the last twelve years or so before you try to write something like this again. Jeez.
