Ok, let me clarify this for you.

"He added that Microsoft planned to let SAP customers continue
using rival databases even if it bought the company"

SAP CUSTOMERS (i.e the people who purchased SAP software)
would be allowd to use what ever database they are currently
using (read non Microsoft).

To state it in the opposite. SAP CUSTOMERS would not be
allowed to use anything but MS databases if MS purchased SAP.

Make sense now?

That is fair trade. MS (having purchased SAP) forcing SAPs
customers to use only MS databases would be a perfect example
of communism.

You know, kinda like the former USSR forcing East Germany,
Poland, Romania, ect. to accept communism or die. Just like MS
forcing SAP customers to use MS databases or the product they
purchased would be useless.

Got it now?
