Consider this ...
*Ebay is a software company. Amazon is a software company. Yahoo is a software company. They all have thousands of developers developing software on open platforms and standards that are mostly available free of charge.

None of them sell their software for profit. They make money *USING* their software (and that of others).

* Companies from one-person basement operations to $billion corporations make 100s of billions on the Web every year. All on a platform that is free and open. Tim Berners Lee never made a dime off it (well, other than a salary and whatever comes from noteriety).

*Software vendors write and sell software for Windows. They can make just as much by developing software fo any platform. There is only one company that actually makes money off Windows. They ar the only loser to OSS. All other software companies have an OSS strategy. Microsoft's OSS strategy is to crush it (which they can't).

If you haven't yet figured out a way to make money on OSS,plenty of other people already have, so you had better get out of the software business soon.
