I still don't get the OS business model
Maybe I'm naive in thinking that companies like Novell, IBM, and RedHat who openly embrace OS products actually have a for profit business to run.

For the vast majority of enterprises, being able to look at the Linux kernel, Apache, Tomcat, mozilla, MySQL, et al is not what their in the business of doing.

At some point, all these OS alternatives will give enterprises a true cross the board alternative to M$, Oracle, Lotus, and eventually SAP et al. The time is growing closer and that's great news. But M$ still has a long way to go with dropping their prices and still making money.

And until that day that OS products become so commoditized and near perfect in their coding, an enterprise won't be getting something for nothing.

Which leads me to my point / question? Are most OS zealots really that socialist in nature that they want Stallman's idea of everything is free, at least in terms of computer software? If its free how do make money and create jobs? Really? I'm dyng to have a really, really knowledgeable OS zealot like the CFO of RedHat explain this to me.
