As Al Qaeda claimed responsibilty for the crimes. It's not like the US has anything to prove other than that Al Qaeda is lying which I doubt.

The reason for war was stupidity because the pres didn't think the population would stand for the real reason. That was to end the sanctions and remove a tyrant from power. Was it better just launching cruise missles into a couple times year while you forced the population into poverty? For this reason alone the invasion was justified as Saddam would not abide by the rules that would have lifted these sanctions.

As well the US needs an ememy to justify the expenditure on arms. Why have that huge military if there is no one to fight? IRAQ just presented themselves as good enemy. Had China or North Korea done anything differntly it might have been them but that's bigger fight that the US people may not have supported for any reason Bush could dream up in the current situation.
