Maybe you missed what I was saying. Clusters and desktops are related . .
There will be killer desktop apps comming that you run on the desktop and automatically migrate processes to a cluster. If all the clusters are running Linux, it would give customers a really good reason to run Linux on the desktop as well. Also, in general, Microsoft does NOT want customers to get comfortable with Linux. If Linux comes in the door to power the cluster and they see how well it works, how reliable it is, get experience with Linux, and see how much it saves, they will be much more likely to consider Linux for other uses. Microsoft can afford to spend billions to prevent even 1% of the desktop market going to Linux. I don't know where the "tipping" point is, and Microsoft doesn't either, but they do NOT want to find out. If we get to the tipping point, Microsoft will have to reduce prices by a factor of say 5, and live with half the sales. That would mean a reduction in profit of at least 10x.

So, you will see Microsoft throwing millions or even billions wherever they can to deny Linux even 1% market share on the desktop. THY HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO OPEN A LOT OF DIFFERENT FRONTS IN THIS WAR, WE ARE TALKING BILLIONS.
