User education (aka berating) does wonders to stop most of the spyware/adware problems. If you are spending 2-3 hours a machine, I would recommend making a boot CD based on Bart's PE (www.nu2.nu) and loading ad-aware plugins as well as including Spybot and Hijack this on that boot CD. That will let you boot up any Windows machine to a PE environment where you can run these tools without having all the spyware crap load at startup, or with the explorer.exe process. You can then run those programs and clean an entire system in about 20 minutes, boot time included, without having to fight uphill against all the different "loading" fronts that spyware uses nowadays. After cleaning it off, just reboot the PC, and take out the CD, and poof, no more spyware (at least for a few days). I got tired of cleaning the spyware off machines I am responsible for and started using a boot CD to accomplish the task, and it certainly makes for alot less headaches at the end of the day.
