I wouldn't say this is bad publicity for Lindows.
They are just trying to help customers file claims. Microsoft is the one that will get bad publicity here. There is the appearance that they are trying to make it harder for customers to file claims and weasle out of their obligation. Microsoft should be working with Lindows to make sure there is no fraud involved here instead of spending money on lawyers to fight it based on the fine print. THEY AGREED TO THE SETTLEMENT.
