An end to prohibition in sight?
Bouchers bill would effectively bring an end to media prohibition which has been just about as successful at ending piracy as prohibition against alcolhol was in ending drunkeness. Attempting to enforce morality just doesn't work. In spite of the ivory tower moralism of the DMCA and its adherents, many of us receive more email solicitations for black market media products than ever before in history. Brought to its logical end of outlawing any product that can be used in committing a crime, the DMCA would eliminate the sale of photo copiers, audio recording devices and many other devices with a plethora of legitimate uses. Its past time to reign in the excesses of the DMCA and restore freedom for Americans whose only desire is to make fair use of products for which they have already purchased or to further the capabilities of technology. Hats off to Rick Boucher and his supporters for this noble effort.
