RE: Rivals make run at Microsoft Office
I think competition is healthy and good. I don't like Office 2007 and it's heiroglyphic style menus. I want my text and icon based menus back and I will continue to use office 2003 or an alternative like Open Office until Microsoft decides to put my productivity back into their software. Frankly, I found Access 2007 to be sluggish and a pain the wazoo to learn. The overhead for Access 2007 in terms of time to load, and running databases is far greater than in 2003. I got rid of Access 2007 and am working in Access 2003 where I don't have to drop everything I ever knew about building databases to learn the cryptic hieroglyphic pictures. A lot of features I was familiar with disappeared in the 2007 version which I hated (HATE!). I watched the MS propaganda clips about how the hieroglyhs were supposed to make me more productive when in fact, they made me unproductive and left me stranded. I think MS just didn't know what to do to make a big difference in their new office suite, so they had to attack something and make it different.
I hope Open Office, Symphony and other office productivity suites will continue to support the text based menu system and not migrate up against the BAD IDEAS that MS has about what they think is necessary for us to know or not know. Consumer choice! Freedom to choose! That is what I say.
