I'll spin it for ya...
The headlines always look great and you know the media love to take the underdog's side. As you may all remember, last year the City of Munich, Germany decided to drop Windows and switch to Linux. All of the Linus lovers danced in the streets. However, none of you cared to follow the story to see how "great" the idea was. Let me bring you up-to-date:

As reported on The Register: "Last year, the city of Munich, Germany opted to go with Linux instead of Microsoft software on more than 14,000 desktop computers. This was seen as a significant setback for Microsoft and a clear sign of Linux' increasing viability. But now the project is in trouble, according to Computerwoche.

This Spring, Munich needs to finish a migration plan as well as present a budget for the project. But according to Computerwoche there is not enough money and technical difficulties may result in stalling of the LiMux Project. In particular, smaller software vendors seem to be unable to migrate Munich to Linux, simply because they lack open source knowledge."

If you care to verify the sources, go to: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/01/15/munich_linux_setback/

I'm curious about the statements of "not enough money" to deploy a "free" OS. Follow that with "lack of open source knowledge" to migrate their applications to Linux.

These are the problems all major implementations of Linux run into and is exactly what's holding Linux back from becoming a real player in the market.

Although, I will conceed the fact that Linux will overcome this. The question is, how long will it take and where will Microsoft be at that point? I have an idea that Microsft will not sit around and wait for Linux to catch up.

Which is the reason I love Linux. They are making Microsoft think about their software, make it better in every aspect, and give the market what it is asking for.

OK, I'm done. I'll accept your flames and FUD now.
